The best time to visit the Fiji Islands is between May and November. This is the ‘winter’ season, and though still deliciously warm and tropical, it is not as humid as the hotter, wetter summer months of December – April.

Do not rule out the summer months, however, as there are many advantages. First, there is a greater abundance of flowering flora and trees, as many only begin to bloom prodigiously in November. Second, since it is the ‘ low season ‘ it is easier to find off-season deals.

The temperature at Navutu Stars is determined by its location in the South Pacific Ocean and thus has a tropical maritime climate without extremes in temperature. The changes in temperature from day to day and season to season varies only slightly. The hotter season in January and February is usually no more than 3 to 4 degrees hotter than the cool season of July and August. Although the hot season is also the rainy season, and higher humidity can make this season feel hotter.

Rainfall in Fiji is largely determined by the time of year. The wet season stretches from November to April. The south eastern regions of the main islands, such as the Suva area on Viti Levu, receive much more precipitation that the rest of the islands. During the summer plan for a greater possibility of tropical rain. Rain is what helps to keep Fiji verdant and beautiful. It cools the air and adds an element of romance to the atmosphere in this tropical paradise.

Yasawas in north western Fiji are typically dryer and experience less rain than the rest of Fiji.

Religion & Cultural Norms

The Fijians are pretty easy going, but if you are invited into a village, wear modest clothing and take off your hat when in the village, as wearing one is an insult to the chief. Leave your shoes outside the door when entering a home and keep in mind that it’s also insulting to touch someone’s head – which can be tempting when you are surrounded by wide-eyed, smiling children.

A multi-racial, multi-cultural nation, the population of Fiji is made up of significant numbers of followers of all major religions. Visitors will find Christian churches, mosques, and Sikh and Hindu temples throughout the country. Visitors are more than welcome to join the locals for Sunday worship and it is highly recommended, even if you are not religious. A Methodist service will give you a good insight into how the Fijian village culture is structured and why the people are so friendly and family-focused. You may not understand many of the words, but the music and ceremony will no doubt stay with you.

Money Matters

The Fiji currency (Fiji Dollar – F$) uses the dollar and cents. There are several international banks in the country including Westpac, ANZ and the Bank of Baroda. Nadi Airport has a 24-hour ANZ bank as well as ATM machine. 24-hr ATM cash withdrawal machines are available in Nadi, Sigatoka, Pacific Harbour, Suva, Rakiraki and Lautoka on the main island and in Savusavu and Labasa on Vanua Levu. Banks are open from 9.00am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.

Western Union has offices at Nadi Airport and Suva and there are several local money exchange shops in Nadi Town. Most resorts accept major credit cards in Fiji, as do the larger shops and tourist boutiques in Nadi and Suva. Travellers cheques are readily accepted in most places in Fiji.

Travel to Fiji

Fiji’s economy thrives on tourism. Visitors are granted a special place in Fijian tradition as vulagi, or guests of the family. It is this sense of genuine hospitality that has helped propel Fiji’s tourism industry to international renown as the friendliest destination in the world.

Fijian officials try to make the entry process as easy as possible. In fact, most people are automatically granted visas, which can be valid for up to four months. For those exempt of a visa all that is needed to enter Fiji is a passport that is valid for at least six months after the date of your departure.

We care about our guests’ health and safety, and we strongly recommend that you have personal insurance.

Airline Companies

There are a number of large international carriers that fly into the Fiji Islands, and a handful of domestic airlines provide internal flights in and around Fiji. The two main international airports in Fiji are the Nadi International Airport and the smaller Suva Nausori airport. Both cater to international travel but Nadi Airport is the main access point to the Fiji Islands. There are many other airstrips located in and around the islands of Fiji, providing easy access to Fiji’s resorts and hotels across the country.
Here is a link to two of our favorite carriers. They will be happy to help you get to Navutu Stars Resort quickly and easily:
